Sandwell Council shortlisted for major award

21/04/2009

We’re delighted to tell you that Sandwell Council has been shortlisted for a major regeneration prize in The MJ Achievement Awards 2009.

The MJ (formerly The Municipal Journal) is a government-run management journal for local authority business. The highly sought-after MJ Achievement Awards were set up to “publicly recognise and promote achievement in local government services”.

The finditinsandwell team submitted an entry in the ‘Regeneration Achievement of the Year’ category, telling the judges about our efforts to boost the skills, aspirations and qualifications of Sandwell people by creating training opportunities and sustainable employment, and nurturing local businesses.

Our entry focused particularly on finditinsandwell and its success in giving Sandwell firms the support they need to thrive.

And it worked! Sandwell Council is one of six shortlisted entrants in the Regeneration Achievement of the Year category (sponsored by Capita), and now a party from Sandwell MBC is preparing to travel to London to attend the awards.

“Following the good news about Celebrating Construction and CLES, we’re so pleased to get yet more national recognition,” said finditinsandwell’s Steve Massey. “This was a record year for entries, and we’re delighted that Sandwell Council’s regeneration work has stood out as a strong contender for such a prestigious award. It’s thanks to the finditinsandwell team and our other colleagues here at Sandwell Council – all the people who are working hard to get Sandwell people into secure jobs and training programmes, and to support our businesses.”
