Opportunities for Sandwell firms in Denmark

Date added: 09 February 2012

On 3 September 2008 Denmark and Germany signed a treaty for the construction of a fixed link across a stretch of water known as Fehmarnbelt. The link will be known as the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link.

This major project has been identified by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) as a ‘high value opportunity’ (HVO) for UK companies, with an estimated value of £350 - 500m to the UK economy.

UKTI, in conjunction with Femern A/S, is offering Sandwell companies an exciting opportunity to hear the latest on this project and find out exactly how they can get involved, by attending an ‘Industry Day’ in Copenhagen on Wednesday 21 March.

Femern A/S is inviting the whole international construction world to this event and the day will provide information about the project, as well as laying the groundwork for potential international partnerships and joint ventures.

The Industry Day presents the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link project's four major contracts, representing a total value of EUR 5.5bn (2008 prices), so there could be plenty of opportunities for Sandwell businesses.

In the days leading up to the event UKTI Copenhagen will also be hosting a number of networking events and dinners for UK companies visiting Denmark, so other opportunities may present themselves there.

There may also be a chance to visit the construction site itself. Full details are still to be finalised but the trip could mean an opportunity to raise significant OMIS (Overseas Market Introduction Service) revenue and also to increase the chances of UK representation on the project.

For further information about the event and how to register for it please visit our events page. The registration deadline is Wednesday 14 March and the number of participants at the event is limited, so don’t delay and miss out on this valuable opportunity.

If you know of a company who may be interested in getting involved please contact Mark Chapman, market adviser at UKTI Copenhagen, on +45 35 44 52 39 or email mark.chapman@fco.gov.uk.
