A West Bromwich welcome to Majorsell

Date added: 03 February 2012

A leading airbrake specialist that supplies 70 countries has celebrated its Black Country expansion with a high-profile open day.

Last week Majorsell Ltd, which has been assisted by the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS), showcased its new 20,000 sq. ft. facility in Credenda Road, West Bromwich to more than 50 delegates. The company has predicted a record sales year for 2012.

The Lady Mayor of Sandwell Councillor Joyce Underhill and former West Bromwich Albion player Cyrille Regis officially opened the firm’s new premises before receiving a guided tour of its distribution operation, reconditioning workshop and trade counter.

Deborah Burrows, Majorsell's managing director, explained the reasons behind the move.

"We used to be based over three buildings in Birmingham, but due to the pace of growth we quickly found that we were outgrowing the site,” she said.

"A lot of our UK customers are based in the West Midlands and we wanted somewhere which gave us quick access to the motorway network, a large yard and the chance to shape the internal layout of our new home.

"The Credenda Road facility is just what we were looking for and, following a £150,000 investment, we have now got it operating at 100 per cent efficiency.”

Established in 1980, Majorsell has grown into one of the leading suppliers of airbrake components and repair kits to customers spanning owner operators, small and large transport fleets and distributors and stockists.

More than 70 countries in the world, including Peru, Russia, Ukraine and the USA, receive products sent out from the company and, in recent years, demand has grown rapidly for its rebuilt compressors.

This service, which was what the firm was originally built on, helps to provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to buying brand new products.

Deborah said: "In today’s tough economic differences, our customers are looking to improve the life of their products and rebuilding compressors can do this quickly and offers financial incentives.

"On some occasions it could save firms more than £250 per compressor and we are seeing strong interest from Russia and South American countries where they are purchasing parts for older vehicles.

The enhanced MAS has provided strategic advice and guidance to help Majorsell’s growth, which has seen it create four new jobs in the last few months – taking its workforce past 25 for the first time in its 31-year history.

Councillor Ian Jones, Sandwell's cabinet member for jobs and economy, said: "We welcome Majorsell to Sandwell and are happy to have supported such a thriving business to relocate to the borough.

"This is a good example of a successful company recognising the benefits of moving here and seeing it as a great place to do business.

"As a borough steeped in manufacturing history, ideally located with excellent supply chains, we encourage more businesses to look at what we can do to help them."

A big finditinsandwell welcome to Majorsell! We'd be delighted to see you at one of our Breakfast Clubs soon.
